Mainstream social platforms allow Christian users to publish content, but they are not designed specifically around faith-based participation. Important posts such as prayer requests, testimonies, answered prayers, and devotional reflections can quickly become mixed into a wider stream of unrelated content.

The design challenge was to create an experience that felt familiar enough to use naturally while giving different types of Christian content clearer meaning, organisation, and visibility. The interface also needed to support community interaction without making the product feel overly formal, institutional, or visually disconnected from modern mobile behaviour.

BackPew was designed as a mobile-first community platform built around distinct faith-centred content types. The home feed allows users to browse testimonies, prayers, and devotional posts through clear filters. Story-style content supports short visual updates, while user profiles provide a space for identity, biography, followers, and personal posts.

Messaging, comments, reactions, following, and notifications extend the experience beyond publishing and allow users to encourage one another through direct and public interaction. A clean visual system, bright category colours, rounded content cards, recognisable navigation, and accessible interaction patterns help the product feel modern while preserving a welcoming community tone.

The product vision was to create a digital environment where Christians could be open about their faith, find encouragement, share moments of gratitude, request prayer, and connect through experiences that may not receive the same visibility on general-purpose social platforms.

The concept considers several overlapping community needs:

• Christians looking for a focused online faith community
• Church members who want to remain connected outside physical gatherings
• Users who want to share prayer requests and answered prayers
• People seeking encouragement through testimonies and devotional content
• Christian creators and community leaders
• Young adults comfortable with familiar social and story-based interactions

The prototype brings familiar mobile interactions into a focused community experience:

The interface was designed around recognisable mobile social patterns so users could understand the product without a long learning process. The experience uses a central home feed, bottom navigation, profile pages, stories, comments, messaging, and post creation. These familiar patterns were adapted to support faith-specific content and clearer community participation.

Bright accent colours distinguish content categories such as testimonies and prayers, while a mostly neutral interface keeps posts readable and allows user content to remain the main visual focus.

Key UX considerations included making the major content categories easy to discover, reducing friction when creating or responding to a post, and maintaining clear navigation across the feed, stories, profiles, comments, and messages.

The prototype also explores how personal spiritual content can be presented respectfully while retaining the immediacy and familiarity expected from a modern community application.

Future product development could explore community groups, church pages, live prayer sessions, content moderation, privacy controls, saved devotionals, prayer follow-ups, reporting tools, and more detailed onboarding based on the user’s preferred form of participation.
