Overview

Creating a clearer path into the breadth of Christian music

Christian music extends far beyond a single sound, but discovery is often fragmented across broad streaming catalogues, playlists, social recommendations, and isolated artist links.

BackPew Music brings a curated cross-genre artist library into one focused interface. Listeners can move from discovery to playback while staying inside a consistent faith-centred experience.

The product was approached as a responsive web application with an emphasis on fast browsing, clear artist selection, legible track information, and a low-friction route into Spotify playback.

The Challenge

Making a broad music landscape feel focused rather than restrictive

General streaming platforms offer enormous catalogues, but listeners seeking Christian music often have to depend on prior knowledge, broad search terms, or playlists that represent only a narrow part of the landscape.

The challenge was to support multiple genres and a growing artist list without overwhelming visitors, while keeping discovery immediate for both established and unfamiliar artists.

The Solution

One discovery surface connecting catalogue, filters, and playback

The finished interface gives each selected artist a prominent playback area and a direct Spotify route, then supports exploration through search, genre filters, and a responsive grid of artist cards.

Selecting an artist updates the featured listening experience without forcing a new page journey. This keeps exploration quick while Spotify embeds provide familiar playback controls and track information.

Discovery Model

Genres provide useful entry points without defining artists too narrowly

The catalogue recognises that many Christian artists work across overlapping sounds. Cards can carry more than one genre, while the filters provide quick entry points for Worship, Gospel, Hip-hop, R&B, Afro, and Dancehall listeners.

Search and category filtering work together so users can browse broadly or move directly toward a known artist or sound.

Future Opportunities

A foundation for more personal and community-led listening

Future development could introduce listener accounts, favourites, saved artists, curated playlists, personalised recommendations, deeper artist profiles, recently played history, editorial collections, and closer integration with the wider BackPew product ecosystem.

Product Outcome

BackPew Music establishes a clear, usable foundation for Christian music discovery across several genres. It demonstrates how a focused catalogue and familiar streaming integrations can make exploration more intentional without recreating a full music platform or making unsupported claims about audience growth.
